- Seasonal Focus
*Cabbage – Strong and Steady
Ontario Cabbage is holding firm and should stick around until April. It’s a dependable choice for slaws, soups, and hearty braised dishes as the weather cools.
*Tomatoes – Keeping It Close Hothouse, Roma, Red Vine Cluster, Cherry, and Heirloom Tomatoes are Ontario-grown, and the quality is unbeatable - sweet and vine-ripened for peak flavor.
- Market Movements & Price Fluctuations
Spring Mix and Nordic blends are caught in a growing region shuffle, moving from Salinas, California to Yuma, Arizona. With Salinas fully harvested and Yuma not yet in full production, the result is a significant gap in availability. This transition has led to major quality challenges and daily price swings.
The Silver lining? Relief is expected by the weekend as the lettuce market starts to stabilize. Prices for Romaine, Romaine Hearts, Head Lettuce, Spring Mix, and Nordic should start to ease, making menu planning a little less stressful.
Sadly, Mixed Artisan Lettuce is unavailable for now plan menus accordingly.
- Hilite Stars – Sweet & Juicy Delights
*Pomegranates: Looking stellar this season, bringing vibrant color and fresh flavor to your menus.
*California Oranges: As bright and juicy as ever.
*Meyer Lemons: A welcome addition to the citrus lineup.
*Florida Grapefruit: Holding strong with exceptional flavor.
- Stone Fruits on the Horizon
Apricots are expected to arrive by the weekend, with Nectarines and Peaches following next week. Stone fruit lovers, your patience is about to pay off.
- What's New and What's Changing
*Ontario Beets – Rooting for the Home Team
Beets from Ontario are in full swing and are an easy win for any menu. Roast them, pickle them, or let them shine in a hearty salad-these versatile veggies are here to steal the show.
*Peppers – A Pricey Shift
Ontario Peppers are making way for Spanish imports, and with the change comes a price hike due to air freight.
*Zucchini – Excellent Quality
Zucchini is shining in both quality and versatility, with only a slight price increase.
